    Quick Project Steps

Prep thread: Cut ~4 ft Dragon Thread, thread needle, add a stop bead and slide it to the end. Work with one long thread and a single needle as Ally does. Make first RAW unit: String 3 beads, pass back through beads 1–3 as shown to form the first right-angle weave (RAW) square; pull snug so the unit sits neat. Continue RAW band: Repeat: add 3 beads, pass to the opposite side so you always exit the “right-hand” bead. Make the band as long as needed (remember it will tighten slightly when seamed/embellished). Check sizing: Use a ring mandrel or sizer to test fit now (RAW will shrink ~¼ size when finished). Adjust number of RAW units for desired ring size. Join ends: To close the band, add 1 bead, sew into the corresponding bead at the other end to form a final seamless RAW unit, then run through the surrounding RAW units once more to tighten. Build base clusters: Identify the three RAW units you’ll embellish (the tutorial uses three). For each chosen unit, exit the lateral bead and add: 15/0 – crystal – 15/0; sew into the next RAW bead (vertical corner) to anchor. Do this for the 3 positions in the cluster across the band. Add side fringe (first row): Working around each decorated RAW unit, come out each corner bead and add the first fringe spikes: 15/0 – crystal – 15/0, then sew back into the RAW so the spike sits outward. Repeat so each corner of the three units has a spike. Add second fringe layer (fluff): To make it “fluffier,” add another layer: go back through the same corner bead, add another 15/0 – crystal – 15/0, and stitch back (or work backwards around the unit once then a second pass) so crystals point in varying directions — this builds depth. Repeat on remaining units: Do the same cluster + fringe for the other two selected RAW units so the band shows even “firecracker” clusters. Seam up the band sides: Reinforce and tighten the band: run through each right-hand side RAW bead adding an 8/0 (or two 15/0s) across the length to bring the two RAW tracks together. This strengthens the ring and limits stretch. Final passes & bury threads: Sew your working thread back toward the start, weave under bridge threads or through beads to bury tails, tie thread ends together where they meet (simple knot), and trim. Finish & secure: Use a thread zapper (or careful flame) to melt/burn the thread tails flat toward the beadwork. Check for any loose beads and trim/reinforce as needed.
