In this tutorial, Chris demonstrates how to create an elegant Pie Cushion Pendant using a 12 mm cushion-cut crystal surrounded by a decorative beaded bezel. The design combines PieDuos, 4 mm round beads, 11/0 seed beads, and tube beads to build a structured setting that securely holds the crystal in place. Using approximately 3–3.5 feet of size 6 thread, Chris begins by creating a circular foundation with four PieDuos, adding seed beads and 4 mm rounds between them. He then builds four supporting arms on the back of the pendant, connects them around the center, and inserts the cushion crystal into the setting. The front of the pendant is embellished with additional seed beads to form a decorative border around the crystal, while four tube beads are added to the back to stabilize the bezel. Finally, Chris demonstrates how to create a sturdy bail using ladder stitch and 11/0 seed beads, before attaching a decorative drop to the bottom of the pendant. The finished piece can be worn on a waxed cotton necklace, ribbon, or any chain of your choice, making it a versatile design that can be customized with different colors and materials.

    Quick Project Steps

Create the Foundation: Using size 6 thread, add a stop bead and string four PieDuos, connecting them with 11/0 seed beads and 4 mm rounds to form the front structure. Build the Back Arms: Add groups of 11/0 seed beads between the PieDuos to create four supporting arms behind the front beadwork. Secure the Crystal: Connect the center beads of the four arms loosely, place the 12 mm cushion crystal in the opening, and tighten the thread around it. Reinforce by passing through the beadwork several times. Add the Front Border: Work around the front of the pendant, adding groups of four 11/0 seed beads between the existing sections to create a decorative border around the crystal. Stabilize the Back: Flip the pendant over and add four tube beads between the PieDuo sections, securing each one through the surrounding seed beads and 4 mm rounds. Create the Bail: Form a loop above the pendant using 11/0 seed beads. Build the bail by adding repeated rows of four seed beads, then connect and reinforce it to the pendant. Add the Bottom Drop: At the bottom 4 mm round, add three 11/0 seed beads, the drop bead, and another three 11/0 seed beads. Pass through the round bead to create a secure loop. Finish the Pendant: Reinforce the drop and bail, tie off the thread, weave in the ends, and carefully trim or burn the excess. Add the Necklace: Attach the finished pendant to waxed cotton, ribbon, or your preferred necklace.
