The Tucson Dream Oval Bezel Pendant tutorial teaches beaders how to successfully bezel an oval cabochon, focusing on how and why bead counts must change to accommodate a non-round shape. Viewers learn how to build a strong peyote foundation using larger Delica beads for speed, then gradually transition to smaller seed beads to create controlled curvature that pulls the bezel into an oval. The instructor clearly explains how spacing, bead size, and tension work together to securely hold an 18×25 mm cabochon in place. The video finishes by showing how to create a simple ladder-stitched bail and how to optionally decorate the outer edge with crystals or additional beadwork. By the end, viewers gain both a repeatable bezel technique and the confidence to adapt it to other oval stones and decorative styles.

    Quick Project Steps

Prep materials & thread: Thread the needle and add a stop bead, leaving a short tail to secure the starting beads. Create the base ring: String the initial sequence of Delica or seed beads to form a ring sized to fit the oval cabochon. Begin peyote stitch: Work peyote stitch around the ring, adding one bead per stitch to build the first bezel rows. Shape the oval: Adjust bead counts at the top and bottom of the bezel so the beadwork curves into an oval instead of a circle. Build height on the back: Continue peyote rows on the back side of the bezel to create a ledge for the cabochon to rest on. Insert the cabochon: Place the oval cabochon into the bezel and gently tighten the beadwork around it. Secure the front edge: Stitch additional peyote rows on the front side, switching to smaller seed beads to pull the bezel inward. Reinforce critical areas: Sew through the top and bottom sections multiple times to prevent the cabochon from shifting. Add the bail: Use ladder stitch to create a small bail at the top of the pendant for hanging. Finish & decorate: Tie off and trim thread, then optionally add crystals or decorative beads around the outer edge.
