Lyra Drop Earrings Tutorial

The Lyra Drop Earrings tutorial teaches viewers how to build an elegant, dramatic drop earring using a 30mm endless ring as the base and layering ladder stitch beadwork directly onto the form. The design begins by attaching Delica beads in sets of two using a structured ladder stitch that wraps around the metal ring, creating a stable framework that hugs the curve beautifully. By the end, beaders gain confidence in ladder stitch on a form, shaping beadwork along a curve, adding fringe drops, and creating a professional reinforced finish.

    Quick Project Steps

Prep materials & attach thread: Cut about 4 feet of thread, thread your needle, and tie it securely onto the 30mm endless ring. Start the ladder stitch foundation: Pick up two Delica beads, add two more, and ladder stitch them together against the ring. Wrap ladder stitch onto the form: Sew back through the bead pairs and around the ring to anchor them snugly to the metal form. Repeat for six segments: Continue adding pairs of Delicas in ladder stitch until you have six evenly spaced sections along the ring. Add the first decorative row: String 11/0 seed beads, a Delica, 15/0s, a 3mm crystal, and matching beads to mirror the pattern across the row. Attach bottom Delicas: Add two Delicas at the base of the row and ladder stitch them to the previous pair to secure the structure. Build additional rows: Repeat the bead pattern, slightly adjusting bead counts as the ring narrows and sharing the center crystal in one row to reduce bulk. Create the pearl drop fringe: Between ladder sections, add 11/0s, a crystal, and a pearl drop with small seed bead trim, then sew back up to anchor each drop. Attach the wire guard: At the top center, add an 11/0, a crystal, and sew through the wire guard, then back through the crystal to secure it. Reinforce & finish: Pass through the top connection again for strength, tie off thread securely, trim ends, and attach the ear wire by opening it sideways.
