Snowy IrisDuo Earrings Tutorial

The Snowy IrisDuo Earrings tutorial guides viewers through creating elegant, crystal-accented earrings that shimmer with wintry charm. Using IrisDuos, seed beads, and small crystals, the tutorial demonstrates how to build a circular base, layer beads into delicate “V” formations, and finish with sparkling crystal accents and a wire guard for durability. The project highlights techniques like controlling thread tension, navigating two-hole IrisDuos, and reinforcing for a professional finish all while encouraging color experimentation to create unique, seasonal variations.

    Quick Project Steps

Prep & stop bead: Cut ~2–3 ft thread, thread needle, and add a temporary stop bead near the end (or leave a short tail). This keeps beads from sliding. Form the IrisDuo circle base: String: IrisDuo → 15/0 → IrisDuo → 15/0… until you have the number of IrisDuos needed to form a small circle. Bring the ends together and sew through the first few beads to close the ring snugly (not crushed). Seat and tighten the ring: Pass through the ring a couple more times (through IrisDuos and adjacent 15/0s) to stabilize the round — keep tension even so the circle sits flat. Add the inner 15/0–11/0 decorative row: Exit a top 15/0 and add the V-building sequence: 15/0 → 11/0 → 15/0 (or the exact beads shown). Sew these little units around the circle where the IrisDuos meet to create the first decorative layer. Build the V-shaped embellishments: From the inner row, step out and form the V points by adding rows of 15/0 and 11/0 (the video uses a stacked pattern) so small V’s extend outward between IrisDuos. Mirror each V so the earring is symmetrical. Add crystals between IrisDuos: Where the design calls for sparkle, exit the appropriate 15/0, pick up 15/0 → 3 mm crystal → 15/0, then sew into the opposite bead to lock the crystal in place between two IrisDuos. Repeat around the circle as shown. Reinforce the beadwork: Do 1–2 reinforcement passes through the inner circle, the V units, and the crystal connectors so nothing is single-threaded. Pull snug but don’t distort shape. Attach the wire guard: Exit the topmost bead where the ear wire will sit. Add a couple 11/0s, pass the thread through the wire guard, then back through adjacent beads and the guard again (2–3 passes) to lock it in place. Tie off & hide tails: Weave the thread into nearby bead bridges, make a small weaver’s knot (optional), then bury the tail through several beads. Trim and zap (if using synthetic thread). Add ear wire & final check Slip the ear wire onto the wire guard (open sideways), close, check symmetry and crystal orientation, and tighten any loose areas with a final pass if needed.
