Embellished Cylinder Necklace Tutorial

The Embellished Cylinder Necklace tutorial teaches how to create a hollow beaded tube using 4mm gemstones, Czech round beads, and 11/0 seed beads arranged in a repeating “caterpillar” pattern that is shaped and tightened into a structured cylinder. The design is extended by repeating the bead sequence to achieve the desired length, reinforcing each section for stability and alignment. A decorative layer of 15/0 seed beads is then added using a crisscross technique to fill gaps, enhance texture, and strengthen the piece. The tutorial finishes with thread management and demonstrates how to slide the tube onto leather, chain, or cord to transform it into a versatile necklace or bracelet.

    Quick Project Steps

Prep materials & thread: Thread your needle and gather 4mm gemstones, 4mm Czech rounds, 11/0 and 15/0 seed beads. Start the base sequence: String alternating gemstones and Czech rounds in a repeating pattern to form the initial “caterpillar” strip. Form the tube shape: Bring the ends together and sew through corresponding beads to create a square, then tighten to form a hollow cylinder. Reinforce the structure: Sew through the beads again to stabilize the tube and ensure it holds its shape evenly. Add 11/0 seed beads at ends: Insert 11/0 seed beads between outer beads at both ends to define and strengthen the openings. Extend the cylinder: Add more gemstones and Czech rounds following the same pattern, connecting each new section to the previous one. Repeat & build length: Continue repeating the sequence until you reach your desired bracelet or necklace length. Reinforce each new section: Make additional passes through beads as you go to maintain structure and alignment. Add embellishment layer: Use 15/0 seed beads in a crisscross pattern between 11/0 beads to fill gaps and add texture. Complete embellishment: Continue the decorative pattern along the entire tube, keeping tension consistent. Finish & secure threads: Weave in thread tails, tie off securely, and trim or burn ends. Assemble the piece: Slide the finished tube onto leather, chain, or cord to complete your necklace or bracelet.
