Big Little Earrings Tutorial

The Big Little Earrings tutorial teaches you how to create a beautifully layered, sparkling earring using StormDuos, bicones, 8/0, 11/0, and 15/0 seed beads, along with an earring wire and jump ring. With a single-needle thread path, the design forms a star-like floral component that builds outward through repeated bead groupings and structured embellishment. This tutorial blends structured stitching with small thread-path tricks that create dimension, resulting in earrings that are sparkly, lightweight, and endlessly customizable.

    Quick Project Steps

Prep & layout: Cut ~2–3 ft thread. Thread needle and leave a 6–8" tail (or secure a stop). Lay out 4 StormDuos and separators for quick pickup. Form the 4-unit StormDuo circle: String StormDuo → 11/0 → StormDuo → 11/0 until 4 StormDuos are on the thread separated by 11/0s. Bring ends together and sew through the first few beads to close the loop snugly. Tie a small starter knot & reinforce: Make a small securing knot (or weave a few passes) through the loop so the circle won’t loosen. Sew a full reinforcement pass through all StormDuos and separating 11/0s. Add the center bicone: Exit an 11/0 adjacent to a StormDuo, pick up 11/0 → bicone → 11/0, and sew into the opposite 11/0 to saddle the bicone in the center. Repeat for the main center crystal(s) as shown. Jump to outer StormDuo holes: Move the thread to the outer/top hole of each StormDuo (per video) to begin the outer embellishment rounds. Add side bicones & small arches: Between each pair add a bicone (or 15/0–8/0–15/0 arch): 15/0 → 8/0 → 15/0 over the 8/0 anchors so little arches pop outward. Repeat around the whole component. Build the decorative outer row: Over each 8/0, add three 11/0s (or the video’s exact 11/0 grouping) to create the pointed outer texture. Over each bicone add 15/0 → 11/0 → 15/0 for sparkle—work the full circle. Use skip-center technique for pop: On the shaping round, intentionally skip the middle 11/0 in select groups (as shown) so the outer beads push forward and form star-like peaks. Create the top loop & attach findings: At the top, build a secure 8/0 + 11/0 loop sized for a jump ring or ear wire. Add a wire guard (or jump ring) through that loop and make multiple passes to lock it in place. Reinforce & finish: Make 2–3 reinforcement passes through the core, bridges, and top loop. Tie small weaver’s knots tucked under beads, bury tails through several beads, trim, and lightly zap if using synthetic thread. Add ear wire and repeat for the mate.
